Telehealth physical therapy is the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to remotely provide health care information and services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, telehealth physical therapy is now approved by all major insurance companies and is widely being practiced throughout the United States.
Initial Evaluation: Much like a face-to face evaluation, over the course of 60 minutes the physical therapist will review past medical history, chief complaint(s), aggravating movements and positions. In addition to this, the therapist will observe specific biomechanical motion and tasks. The PT will also try to develop a holistic picture of the patient by assessing diet/digestion, current stress levels, sleep and exercise habits. A movement diagnosis will be given and a specific plan of care will be developed working to meet both short-term and long-term goals of the patient.
Follow-up appointments: Over the course of 30 minutes, prescribed exercises will be both reviewed, modified and progressed to meet the current needs of the patient. Specific self-manipulation techniques will be taught for pain-relief and self-management.
Please note, that over the course of either the initial evaluation or follow-up appointments, the therapist may recommend hands-on therapy to speed recovery and mitigate pain.
